Charcoal from Joan’s Body on Paper
2016
These four charcoal drawings depict single trees, each rendered on handmade paper using charcoal created from the burned branches of Jeanne d’Arc. The very material of the drawings holds the memory of the tree itself, transforming loss into creation. Each tree stands alone, both fragile and resilient, a quiet reflection on life, destruction, and renewal. By drawing with Jeanne d’Arc’s remnants, the act becomes one of reverence—honoring her legacy while giving her story new form.
